Description
One of the most beautiful and unusual rock formations can be found between villages of Poluvsie and Porúbka. Due to its appearance and majestic dimensions, it was declared a protected natural creation in 1965. More precisely, it is a dolomite rock object of a needle shape called the Poluvsie Rocky Needle.
This distinctive landscaping element reaches a height of up to 15 meters and it is certainly impossible to overlook it. It is situated on the road from Žilina to Prievidza on the right side behind the railway crossing, right next to the road.
For its easy accessibility, a rock needle was once used for basic climbing training. However, today, due to the poor condition of the cracks in the middle and upper parts, this activity is prohibited.
As a result of erosion and tectonic processes, the Rocky Needle is separated from the adjoining Sunny Rocks. At present, both rock formations have a particularly scientific or aesthetic value and are an attractive natural object for tourists.
