Description
The village of Poráč is surrounded by the hills of the Vysoký Mountain. On its northern slope, there is an interesting natural gem - the Šarkanova diera Cave. It was created as a river cave along fissures in light triassic limestone.
The Šarkanova diera Cave is 178 meters long and consists of the Shepherd's Corridor, a high Archaeological Dome, and ends with a Gallery. According to archaeological findings, the cave was inhabited already in the Late Stone Age.
The cave is one of the stops of the nature trail Šarkanova diera, which begins in a recreation center in Poráčska valley. it is an easy trail that can be managed by all ages. Near the cave Šarkanova hole, there is another cave, Chyža, which is not accessible to the public.
Šarkanova hole itself can be found along the above mentioned educational trail,approximately 1.5 km away from the village of Poráč.
