If you are going for a trip to the Tatras, besides the beautiful tourist sites, make sure to visit the TANAP Museum (Tatra National Park Museum). This kind of museum will inform you about the nature of the Tatras, its protection and the history of making the Tatras accessible.
TANAP Museum with its seat in Tatranska Lomnica is one of the most visited museums of this kind in Slovakia. Thirty thousand visitors come here each year.
The museum consists of 2 separate expositions:
- main exhibition in the TANAP Museum building
- the exposition of the Tatra nature under the open sky, known as the Tatra Botanical Garden
Visitors of all ages are welcome in the museum. Obviously, the most attractive part of the tour consists of exhibits of representatives of local living nature. Thus, you can observe insects, butterflies, reptiles, fish, birds, small and large mammals.
Nature lovers will certainly be enchanted by a collection of woody plants and ground woods, a rocky wall with plants and animals living in rocky crevices or geological exposition.
Children will undoubtedly be impressed by the screening of engaging science films taking place in a 64-seat cinema.
