In the easternmost tip of our beautiful Slovakia, there is the largest drinking water reservoir in Central Europe - the Starina Water Reservoir. It is built on the upper course of the Cirocha River in Bukovské Hills, in the territory of the Poloniny National Park.
The Starina Reservoir supplies almost all over Eastern Slovakia with drinking water. The water flows through 130 kilometers of pipeline to Košice. It was built between 1983 and 1988 and its construction was preceded by the eviction of up to seven villages.
As Starina is an important source of drinking water, swimming, water sports, fishing is strictly forbidden. In the vicinity, camping nor approaching the banks of the water reservoir is allowed.
IIts beauty, however, can be enjoyed from nearby lookout, located in the southern part of the water reservoir. The site is marked by marked cycling routes, but you can also get there by car, which you can park in the parking lot directly under the lookout. You climb a few steps and suddenly you have the entire Starina lie open. Beautiful panoramic views of its surface, but also the surrounding area, will be engraved in your memory for a long time.
