From the beginning of the century, Czech artists responded promptly and convincingly to the alternation of individual tendencies in art and in some cases were able to predict and co-create them in the European and world context. This was, for example, the role of František Kupka, who was at the origin of abstract painting. All of them tried to understand and follow up on new currents of opinion and also to develop them in an original way in an active relationship with the centers of development of European art, as well as with domestic conditions.
