On the outskirts of the town of Liptovský Hrádok, a Castle and a mansion stand on the small hill. The stone castle was built by the Count of Zvolen Donč at the beginning of the 14th century. At that time, the castle was one of the military buildings and guarded an important trade route. In the past, the castle was surrounded by a moat, which has been preserved in the form of a lake to this day.
Later, the castle became the seat of the castle estate administration. An important stage in the history of the castle was the building of renaissance mansion. On the floor of the mansion there were representative rooms for the owners and their guests, and on the ground floor there were warehouses and accommodation for servants.
In 1803, both buildings were hit by a devastating fire. The manor house was restored but the castle has been in ruins since then. Nowadays, the Castle and Manor House in Liptovský Hrádok offer a unique opportunity to travel to ancient times through a tour of the castle and the mansion interior with historical commentary, audio-visual presentation of history and reconstruction to its present form.
The tour takes about 45 minutes. It is only possible to enter the area with a guide. The castle can be reached by car.
