THE MUSEUM IS CURRENTLY TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR OPERATIONAL REASONS!
The Ethnographic Museum in the village of Smižany is an external exhibition of the Spiš Museum in Spišská Nová Ves. The museum presents folk culture of the middle and lower region of Spiš from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Visitors will find an interesting exposition divided into three parts. The first is a traditional peasant room, which is furnished with period furniture, and there are also tools and instruments that document the production of home textiles. This part is also enhanced by the opportunity to try weaving on antique backpacks.
The next section maps the traditional occupations and crafts of that time. There are exhibited mainly objects that document agriculture, pastoralism, domestic and small craft production and mining.
The last part offers a picture of what textile materials and garments were produced and worn in the past. The exposition is complemented by large-scale photographs of the Catholic priest Maroš Madačov.
