One of the historical attractions that is worth seeing is renovated Chapel of Sans Souci. It is located in the village of Iliašovce, in the nearby forest. In 1773, Count Štefan Czák built a summer house with a large complex, which consisted of several buildings and a large park.
It was a place full of fun and luxury where great balls were held. The expensive way of life, however, took its toll, which led the count to financial decline. The Count has sold the lavish furnishings and had the buildings demolished. Only the chapel and the obelisk have been preserved.
A thousand-year-old chapel, as locals call it, stands here as a sign of fame and is an ideal destination for many people. The area is taken care of by Sans Souci Civic Association, which made the site more pleasant and the chapel was, with the help of sponsors and supporters, reconstructed to its original form. There are swings where visitors can contemplate and information panels that tell them more about the history of the summer house.
The ruins of the chapel of Sans Souci are easily accessible via marked trails from several villages - Iliašovce (approx. 2km), Smižany (approx. 4km), Spišská Nová Ves (approx. 4.5km) and Harichovce (approx. 4km). From the top of a gentle hill called Zámčisko, you will find charming views.
