Alekšince, a small village in Nitra region, can boast of a unique rarity in the Slovak territory . At a depth of seven meters below the ground, there is the Museum of Socialism and the Cold War. The museum is housed in an underground shelter against weapons of mass destruction, which originally served as a backup secret command center of the Warsaw Pact army.
Nowadays it is possible to admire various technological equipment in these underground spaces with a network of corridors and rooms. The first part of the exhibition will take you to a fully equipped underground shelter from the Cold War era. It is worth noting the radio and training center, telephone exchange, liaison room, filtration, decontamination and anti-noise unit, equipment and armature.
The second part introduces the atmosphere and character of the Cold War through exhibits, information panels and audiovisual recordings. The tour takes about 40 minutes.
Visits to the museum must be booked in advance by phone with the municipality or civic association, which manages the museum.
