Pajštún Castle belonged to the system of border castles, which in the 13th century took over the function of protection of the northwestern border of the Hungarian state in Little Carpathians. The origins of this royal castle date back to the second half of the 13th century.
The castle buildings have been preserved in fragments around the central courtyard, the area of which is covered by a mound of damaged masonry. The most consistent is the perimeter masonry of palaces and fortifications built into the castle's massif, with preserved windows, arches, entrances, masonry with relief arches and vaults.
There are undemanding hiking trails leading from Borinka, Stupava or Bratislava-Rača to the castle. The fastest access is via 1.5 km long marked trail from Borinka.
