The Váh Region Art Gallery in Žilina was founded in 1976.It is housed in a historic Art Nouveau building, which was built in 1911 for the needs of the police constables in Žilina. The exhibition program of the gallery focuses mainly on the presentation of current visual art with overlaps into the art of the 60s, 70s and 80s of the 20th century.
The exhibition space of the gallery holds exhibitions of the work of established Slovak artists, but also artists of the younger generation. The gallery features a permanent exhibition of works by a prominent figure of Slovak art of the 20th century, Vincent Hložník, and an exhibition of the First Museum of Intermedia, which comes from the collection of the Váh Region Art Gallery in Žilina.
Every year, the gallery also organizes curatorial projects in which several artists participate.
