Rankovské Rocks which belong to the mountain range of Slanské Hills attract tourists especially by beautiful views and also interesting rocky blocks of majestic dimensions, which are characteristic for this mountain region.
These beautiful rock complexes are formed by volcanic rocks, which are evidence of former active volcanic activity. The rocks rise above the dense deciduous forest and at their foot a smaller stone sea can be seen.
From the peaks, the Rankovské Rocks offer beautiful views especially of the valley of the river Torysa, Slanské Hills, Košická Basin and the eastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains. In good weather, the bright eye of an experienced tourist will surely see the high Tatras.
Rankovské Rocks is a nature reserve with the highest level of protection. The subject of protection is not only the rock complex but also its typical communities of rare and endangered plant species.
A green marked hiking trail from the village of Herľany leads to these rocks. The ascent is approximately 5 km long. The popular starting point is also the Herlianske Saddle, from where the red hiking trail leads up to the Vyžník signpost and from there carry on along the green trail.
