The village of Hlboké is particularly connected with a significant figure of Slovak history. It is a prose writer, poet, cultural, political and religious publicist and politician Jozef Miloslav Hurban.
In his honour, there is a barrow designed by architect Dušan Jurkovič built in the village. The barrow reaches a height of 12 meters and is built from the Spiš travertine.
Hurban's body remnants were exhumed from the old grave and placed in a barrow that stands on the spot where a grave for Hurban was already dug.
This sacred place is visited every year by guests from all over Slovakia and abroad. If you want to learn more about the life of J.M. Hurban, we recommend visiting the rectory and museum with expositions dedicated to this important figure of the national revival of the 19th century.
