Near the village of Rožňavské Bystré, there is a natural reserve of Gerlašské Rocks. It is these very aesthetic rock formations and caves that are protected. The Gerlašské Rocks represent a bizarre geomorphological rock formation with rock walls, terraces and debris. The massive rocks surround a thick beech forest and pastures.
An inseparable part of this nature reserve is Gerlašská Rock. It is a plain hill of 752 m above sea level, which offers spectacular views of the vast surroundings. In good weather and with a bright eye, it is possible to see even peaks of the High Tatras.
In addition to good tourism, the site is also known for rare animal or plant communities. Also, the highest 5th degree of protection applies here.
There is a lot of caves under Gerlašské Rocks, specifically on the Plešivec Plain. The most famous of these is the "Šingliarova priepasť" cave, the entrance of which is located in the western part of the Gerlašské Rocks under a high rock cliff.
There are marked hiking trails from the village Rakovnica (green, 2.15 hours) and from the village Štítnik (blue - 1.45 hours) leading to Gerlašské Rocks.
