Above the village of Uhrovec, there is a low hill called Jankov vŕšok (John's Hill). It is a part of the Strážovské Hills, as it is characteristic for this mountain range, which is full of beautiful natural scenery. In addition, this site also witnesses the history of the anti-fascist resistance of the region.
On the hill, there is a barrow built in honour of fallen partisans and soldiers. In addition, original bunkers, in which there is an exhibition of weapons and preserved objects of heroes from the partisan brigade of Ján Žižka, are preserved here.
Part of the hill is a natural amphitheater and also nearby Hotel Partizán and tourist hostel. During winter, you can ski or explore the rich tangle of hiking trails in this pleasant environment.
From the hill, there is a beautiful panoramic view of the wide surroundings. The location is also an ideal place to relax in beautiful nature, as the national nature reserve of the same name spreads out on the southeast slopes of Jankov vŕšok.
Marked hiking trails lead to Jankov vŕšok. The easiest and shortest approach is from the village of Uhrovec along the red trail (approx. 3 km away). A little more distant route is from the village of Miezgovce along the green mark (about 5 km away). If you come here by car we recommend to go via asphalt road from Uhrovec village and park your car in the parking lot in front of the memorial.
