The most striking and beautiful historical building of the main square in Liptovský Mikuláš is undoubtedly the building of the First County House. Today, it houses the Janko Kráľ Museum, which will offer every history lover more than seven-hundred-year story of Liptovský Mikuláš.
The first exhibition of the museum entitled "Chapters from the History of the Town" presents urban history from the earliest times until the end of World War II. It also includes a memorial room of the romantic poet and Nicholas native Janko Kráľ.
An important milestone in the history of Liptovský Mikuláš was the trial of the most famous brigand captain Juraj Jánošík. Jánošík's torture chamber located in the underground spaces or the courtroom, where the orbital death of the most famous bandit Jánošík was plotted, will bring visitors closer to these times.
Torture instruments such as rack, equuleus, Spanish boots and even the minutes of Jánošík's voluntary and patient interrogation bring the atmosphere of this time. The exhibition is also enhanced by dummies of executioner and Jánošík.
In the area of the museum, there is also the so-called Jánošík Garden, which is a space full of attractions and activities for families with children or kindergartens. Children can look for Janošík's treasure, shoot in a target, play in the sandbox or draw with chalk.
In close proximity to the museum, in Pongrác Curia, there is another exhibit entitled “Postal Pigeonry in Slovakia”. The exhibition comprehensively maps the history of pigeon breeding.
