The area between the villages of Matejovce nad Hornádom and Chrasť nad Hornádom is transformed into a fairy-tale ice kingdom during the harsh winter months. Thanks to the proximity of the Hornád River, still flowing water and long-lasting frost, one of the most beautiful icefalls in Slovakia can be found here.
This icefall falls from a massive limestone rock, which is partly overgrown and is called Šikľavá skala (Leaning Rock). The rock itself is up to 40 meters high and around 380 meters wide. In summer, water runs down, creating a not very rich but wide waterfall. The height of the waterfall is approximately 14 meters and its width is 25 - 30 meters.
Beautiful glacier veil is easily accessible from Matejovce nad Hornádom, from where hikers can get here in less than half an hour. A guidepost or signs will also help you navigate. For more experienced tourists, the icefall is a great stop on the road to the Slovak Paradise during the winter.
