National cultural monument Ľupča Castle rises above the town of Slovenská Ľupča, about 10 km east of Banská Bystrica. It was founded in the middle of the 13th century by the Hungarian king Béla IV.
There is also a 62-meter deep well in the castle area, from which a tunnel leads out and ends near the castle.
In the 16th century it was rebuilt into a castle. Since 2002, Železiarne Podbrezová a.s., has been a new owner of the castle, performing now long-term reconstruction of the castle. Despite the reconstruction, the castle is open to the public through regular guided tours.
