One of the most interesting collecting institutions in Slovakia, the Museum of Eastern Slovakia, provides the visitors of all ages with a unique opportunity to cross the waters of history, art and science.
The Museum of Eastern Slovakia has its seat in Košice in a beautiful Renaissance building on the Maratón mieru Square no. 2. The museum is also one of the oldest and most important museums in Slovakia.
Has three departments - Science, Historical and Art History. The museum currently manages over 500,000 items and shows them in nine permanent thematic exposures.
One of the most popular expositions is the "Košice gold treasure", which was discovered in 1935 during construction works, consisting of 2920 gold coins, ducats, double-ducats, three gold medals and a Renaissance gold chain.
Since 2018, the museum has also been adapted to visually disadvantaged visitors, especially in the exhibition “Let's Discover Nature by the Sixth Sense”. It is the place where all models are freely accessible and the visitor can touch them. Visiting the museum is also made easier for such visitors thanks to the "Alone in the Museum" application.
In addition to the rich exposition right in the museum building, visitors can also admire the Wooden church of Kožuchovce, which is located in the courtyard of the museum and thus, it is a part of exterior spaces of the "Island of Culture".
