Casemates of Košice are made up of late Gothic and early Renaissance loopholes, built on late Gothic foundations, and an extension and superstructure from the later period. It is therefore a medieval fortification of the city. Until today, 8 shooting chambers have been preserved, which were used for firing from harquebus.
At present, there is an exhibition of firearms in the shooting chambers, which chronologically presents the development of firearms from their early beginnings to the 18th century, with an emphasis on artillery firearms. Visitors can view the originals and copies of gunfire, rifles, signal mortars, harquebus, bazooka, cannon on the gun carriage with accessories, or various ammunition.
A part of the medieval fortification system of the town was also Executioner's Bastion, which is the largest and best preserved building monument of the medieval fortifications of the town from the 15th century. It got its name according to the fact that there was a apartmentof the city executioner nearby.
The executioner's bastion has a semicircular ground plan and a geological and zoological exposition of Museum of Eastern Slovakia is installed on the first floor. At the northern end of the bastion, there is a copy of so-called Rodošto - the house of Rákoczi. In front of the memorial house, there is a statue of Francis II. Rákóczi.
