In the heart of the historical part of Košice, there is probably the most attractive exposition Museum of Eastern Slovakia. It is Mikluš's prison and Executioner's apartment. The building of Mikluš's prison by joining two burgher houses from 13th-14th century. It served as a prison from the 17th century until 1911.
It is said that the prison was named after the cruel executioner Mikluš. Today, the prison premises are adapted for exposure purposes. In the underground, in the dungeon in the torture chamber, there is a permanent installation of wax figures: executioner Mikluš, his assistant and their victims.
The current permanent exhibition entitled "The Centuries in Košice" was opened in June 1993. In addition to the authentic prison atmosphere with a torture chamber and executioner, it also offers unique guild monuments installed in former prison cells, exhibits related to the history of the city, commerce and crafts, as well as demonstrations of common objects and furnishings of a burgher house in the past.
Equally interesting is the exposure installed in the so-called Executioner's apartment. It was probably built in the second half of the 17th century above the old fortification alley and a little later was directly connected to the prison. In the exhibition visitors can see the original swords of Košice executioners, get acquainted with the history and construction development of the site in an attractive form of computer visualization and get an idea of the living conditions of Košice executioners.
