The birth of museum activities in the sense of organizing collecting activities in 1881 - 1898 prompted the establishment of the Záhorie Museum in Skalica. It is a regional museum with a wider focus on the region of Záhorie, and its museum fund is based mainly on ethnographic collections.
The Záhorie Museum is located in the premises of the so-called Mitták's House. There is a permanent exhibition prepared for visitors. In the first part of the exposition, there is a large-scale map of Záhorie and the coats of arms of 85 towns and villages.
The second part of the so-called the Blaha's Room is dedicated to the founder of the museum, Dr. Pavol Blaha, where Blaha's original collection of West Slovak jug products from the late 17th to 19th centuries and a collection of faience and stoneware from Holíč are placed.
Another part of the exposition is realized in the form of a salon of Jurkovič sisters, collaborators of Pavol Blaha. The ethnographic part is closed by a space devoted to the specifics of peasant management in Záhorie. The archaeological part is dedicated to archaeological research in Záhorie and the historical part of the exposition gives a historical picture of Záhorie and its division into individual estates.
Also interesting is the part devoted to historical crafts and guilds, business activities of the nobility in Záhorie, where the main attention is directed mainly to Francis of Lorraine and Pálffy family.
On the ground floor, the museum has three of its own exhibition spaces, in which it annually presents 10 to 12 exhibitions, while in addition to museums, it also provides space for art, photographic, collector and other exhibitions. The museum also set up the Julius Koreszka Gallery as a separate section.
