In Kremnické Hills, there is one of the oldest protected places in Slovakia. It is a rare, almost untouched habitat, which consists of primaeval fir-beech with the addition of spruce, maple, ash and elm. It is located only 10 km from Banska Bystrica.
The site is also interesting in terms of the rare occurrence of large white firs, whose age ranges from 200 to 400 years. The highest one reaches a height of 46 m and its trunk circumference is a respectable 553 cm. Equally remarkable is the occurrence of no less massive beech trees.
The Badínsky Prales National Nature Reserve is completely closed to the public. Access to the forest is only possible for guided excursions.
However, you can get to the surroundings of the Badín Forest without permission. You can enjoy a pleasant walk along the educational trail, which will take you, for example, to the Badínsky Waterfall located directly above the Badínsky forest. The trail is 1 kilometer long. The nature trail Badínsky prales can be reached by a forest path from the village of Badín, about 6 km away.
