The charming Šimonka Hill is the highest hill in the Slanské Hills. The hill is situated in the national nature reserve with the same name. The subject of protection is the andesite peak, which is also home to a 200-year-old maple-ash forest.
The peak of Šimonka is deforested with a protruding rock, so you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. You can also see the High Tatras and Kráľova hoľa under good conditions.
Hiking in the Šimonka hill area is attractive in every season. The ascent is not demanding and therefore suitable for both active and recreational tourists.
However, Šimonka offers dozens of kilometers of hiking and biking trails. A good starting point for the Šimonka hill is the village of Zlatá Baňa (about 4.5 km). A red hiking trail E3 passes through the western slopes, leading through the main ridge of the Slanské Hills.
