The charming Pohronský Inovec mountain range is a tangle of attractive hiking trails that offer excellent yet unpretentious hiking. The highest point of this mountain is Veľký Inovec (Greater Inovec Hill), which rises near Nová Baňa, and which also offers very attractive and basically undemanding tourism.
The ascent route usually leads through forest and field paths, so you can enjoy hiking in this area at any time of the year. The peak itself is formed by a rocky relic of the andesite stream and since 1992 it has been a protected natural monument.
From the top of Veľký Inovec, you will have a beautiful, but partially limited view. You can admire the beauty of vast meadows, forests, groves or the characteristic scattered settlement, the so-called "štále" (a remote abandoned settlement). Below the peak, there is a tourist cottage on Veľký Inovec, which is constantly open on weekends and public holidays, as well as in the months of July - August.
There are several marked hiking trails leading to Veľký Inovec. Excellent starting points can be the town of Nová Baňa - the settlement of Stará Huta (about 4 km), the villages of Veľká Lehota (about 6 km), Tekovské Nemce or Machulince near Topoľčianky. No matter where you go, don't forget to take your children with you as well, as they can easily climb the Veľký Inovec too.
