Námestie Slobody and the surrounding buildings are an example of functionalist style from the era of socialism. Since 1980, the dominant feature of the square has been the Fountain Družba by architect Karol Lacko, which is also the largest fountain in Slovakia. The core of this stainless steel work is the shape of a linden flower, which is a symbol of the Slavs. The sculpture of the flower in the upper part creates a five-pointed star.
In 2023, a large-scale restoration was completed, thanks to which the fountain once again acquired its original shine and also became more accessible to visitors. The entire square underwent changes that simplified access for children, parents with strollers, and the disabled.
Whoever wants it, can walk and cool off in the fountain - it is a children's water playground. However, entering the fountain with a diameter of 45 meters is at your own risk, dogs are prohibited. The water is chemically treated in the same way as in swimming pools.
After sunset, the Druzhba Fountain turns into an impressive light theater. It is illuminated and attracts the attention of visitors with its beauty.
