The small village of Ihráč near the town of Žiar nad Hronom stands out with its impressive natural monument - the Ihráč Stone Sea. It is located on the southern outskirts of the village, near the Roman Catholic Church.
In fact, the rock stone is a remnant of a natural lava canal - the disintegrating volcano, its decay has created a rubble that has formed an andesite stone sea of immense geological value. Nowadays, hazelnuts and other shrubs are growing between grouped boulders of various sizes, creating this beautiful landscape scenery.
You can admire impressive andesite rubble with boulders of various shapes and sizes. The largest ones weigh up to 500 tons. It is interesting to note that in the area called Líška (The Fox), there are cavities, vents and openings between the rocks, sometimes emitting steam.
If you look a bit closer, you will also see the narrow long lake of rainwater running down the bare rocks of the valley. The stone sea is well accessible from the village, towards the church. The start of the access path is equipped with an information board.
