The Martin Benka Museum, as part of the Slovak National Museum in Martin, was first opened to the public in 1973 in a house where the artist lived and worked from 1958 until the end of his life. During his lifetime, Martin Benka donated a substantial part of his collection to the state and at the same time he wanted to preserve the authenticity of the premises in which the museum is located.
The exposition that visitors can see in the house consists of an authentic workroom where Martin Benka wrote, handled correspondence or hosted a small circle of his friends. They can also enjoy the library, which consists of 1160 items.
Perhaps the most significant influence of Benko's personality was reflected in his studio. It features the artist's favorite works of art, as well as items related to his personal interests. In addition to the study and studio, it is also possible to see a bedroom and a small gallery during the visit. The gallery fulfills the function of a picture gallery since the artist's life since 1960.
