The High Tatras are full of beautiful hiking trails, on which a number of proficient and less proficient Slovak as well as foreign tourists pass.
If you belong to a group of tourist enthusiasts who prefer shorter routes, which you can complete within a few hours, choose Jahňací štít, which surrounds the beautiful Belasé Mountain Lake (orig. Belasé pleso).
This lake belongs to the group of Tatra mountain lakes in the Red Valley. It is situated at an altitude of 1811 m above sea level next to the aforementioned tourist route to the Jahňací štít. It fills a deep glacier and is covered by a 6 m high moraine at the bottom.
The lake is 40 m long and 22 m wide, therefore it is one of the smaller ones in this respect and it is almost completely dry in the summer months. However, during the cold months, its maximum depth is 3.8 m.
The name "Belasé pleso" is derived from its apparent water colour ("belasé" means sky-blue, which is caused by reflexes on the surface of the lake.
Belasé pleso is protected by the high ridges of Kozí and Jahňací štít, as well as the Kolový Saddle and the Jastrabia veža (Hawk Tower).
