The relatively massive peak of Polom extends in the Lúčanská Little Fatra mountain range, above the village of Stráňava near Žilina. You can see Polom Hill from a distance, as it stands out quite vigorously.
Especially known is the massive limestone mining on its northwest slope. In addition to mining activities, the hill is also marked by harsh history. During World War II, it was a place of merciless fighting between the Germans and members of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps. In honor of the liberation and victory, a majestic memorial was built on the top, surrounded by a reverent area.
The very top offers beautiful views of the entire Žilina Basin. At the western foot of the trail, there is the Polom Cottage. After climbing the Polom hill, you can continue hiking on the neighbouring Úplaz massif or Hoblík Hill.
Polom Hill is well accessible by a green trail through a forest path from the village of Stráňavy, through the Javorina saddle. The climb takes about 2 hours. The site includes also a circular educational trail from Strečno.
