About 35 km from the city of Košice, there is a Ružín Dyke lying on the Hornád River - one of the longest and deepest dams in eastern Slovakia. Located in a mountainous valley, it has a narrow elongated shape with several arms. It was built in the 1960s.
It serves to produce electricity but also has an important sports and recreational function. In the vicinity of the reservoir, there are several recreation centers with beaches, accommodation and facilities for water sports. There are many undemanding marked hiking trails around the dam. For example, trail to the hill of Sivec, from which there is a beautiful view of the entire water reservoir and Volovské Hills.
