The village of Smolenice, situated under the south-eastern foothills of the Little Carpathians, offers domestic people and tourists not only recreational but also rich cultural activities in the form of historical monuments, galleries and museums. You will find all of them while wandering through the local streets. The local Molpír Museum, which is one of the smaller museums, offers an interesting view of history.
The museum is housed in an old rectory building. It consists of six rooms, each of which guards valuable exhibits and abounds in its own theme. Part of the exposition are exhibits from the Hallstatt fort of Molpír dating from the 6th century BC.
There are also two natives in the museum - regional historian and teacher Štefan Jastrabík and inventor of the parachute, Štefan Banič. The exhibition of old books from the 17th - 19th centuries from the parish library is also interesting.
Through pictures hanging in the corridors of the museum you can get acquainted with the history of the village. Nature lovers will appreciate the room, which is dedicated to flora and fauna of Smolenice and its surroundings, together with a mineral presentation.
The last room presents the ethnography of Smolenice and its surroundings. The reconstruction of a popularly furnished room from the 19th century will tell you what made the dowry of the former bride and what the dwelling of our old ones looked like. Among the exhibits on display there are various authentic objects, tools and folk costumes.
