The Andrássy Mausoleum is an extremely valuable monument of Art Nouveau architecture and sculpture. It is located in a quiet and picturesque area of Krásnohorské Podhradie.
The family crypt, designed by Munich artists, was built in 1904 by the last male descendant of the Andrássy family - Dionysus - for his beloved wife Franciska and later for himself.
The Mausoleum is built from marble of various colours brought from all over the world. It is located in the centre of a paved courtyard surrounded by a stone wall and seven hectares of parkland.
The interior of the crypt is luxuriously decorated. There are two sarcophagi of white Carrara marble placed here. On the right side, there are the remains of Francis Andrássy, and on the left side rests Dionysus Andrássy.
The Mausoleum is an extended exposition of the Slovak National Museum - the Betliar Museum, housed in the Betliar mansion. The mausoleum makes a common complex together with the adjacent garden and the so-called guard house with a treasury on the opposite side of the road.
If arriving by car, you can park it in a small parking lot next to the ticket office. A visit to the Mausoleum should be surely combined with a visit to Betliar Castle.
